The case
The task consisted, among other things, of reducing a Swedish wooden furniture manufactures high operating and maintenance costs on their existing chip extraction plant.
The existing plant consisted of several decentralized and central plants for chip extraction, which was no longer the optimal solution for the needs of the manufacturer.
The manufacturer was looking for a more energy-efficient and reliable system, and they reached out to Technor, a long-term customer of JKF. Technor conducted an analysis of the existing plan and the production line, to calculate the optimal system for the specific need.

The solution
Technor installed a JKF component-based solution. A new and straightforward energy-efficient chip extraction system that is demand-controlled, so that only the necessary amount of air is extracted.
The waste management occurs via discharge of the material in a ring pipe which blows the shavings into a 34m3 ATEX-approved container.
The discharge is controlled so that the transport fan, rotary valve, and bottom scraper in the filter are only in operation for the time that is necessary to transport the waste.

The outcome
This solution has resulted in large savings in their operating costs, as well as a sharp reduction in maintenance costs in comparison to the existing plant. Because the plant is only operating when there are shavings ready to move it saves energy.
Many plants today are operating full-time which can be necessary, but for some manufacturers an alternative solution is optimal.
This case is a good example of how thorough analysis and project planning can strengthen the outcome and the benefits of the plant.
In addition to the lower operating cost and the reduction in maintenance cost, the plant also provides a significantly better indoor climate for the manufacturer’s employees.
