Friday Bar at NEU-JKF Nordic
A few times a year, colleagues from across NEU-JKF Nordic come together for our Friday Bar – an afternoon with company updates, food, games, competitions and time to enjoy each other’s company.
Staying connected to the bigger picture
The afternoon usually begins with a short update from management about what is happening across the business.
It can be news about current projects, developments in the company, upcoming activities or other topics that are relevant for everyone to know.
In a company with many different departments and responsibilities, it can be easy to focus mainly on what happens in your own area.
The Friday Bar gives everyone a shared moment to hear about what is going on across the company and get a broader sense of where the business is heading.
The information part is kept short and informal, but it gives everyone the same starting point before the afternoon continues.
Then the competition begins
After the update, the focus shifts.
Food is served, conversations start and at some point there is usually something to compete in.
Games, quizzes and small challenges are often part of the afternoon, and naturally there are prizes involved.
Some people take the competition more seriously than others.
That is part of the fun.
The activities vary, but the purpose is simple: to create a relaxed afternoon where people can enjoy themselves and spend time together outside their usual roles.
A different kind of conversation
Friday Bar also creates room for conversations that do not necessarily happen during a normal working day.
People from production, engineering, sales, logistics, administration and other parts of the organisation get the chance to sit down together, talk about something other than the task in front of them and simply enjoy the afternoon.
Sometimes that leads to a good laugh.
Sometimes to a new connection.
Sometimes to a conversation with a colleague you normally only see in passing.
A small tradition that brings people together
Friday Bar is not a major corporate event.
That is exactly why it works.
It is a simple tradition that combines useful company information with a relaxed social afternoon.
A chance to stay connected to what is happening in the business, while also making room for food, games, competition and good company.
